Great Falls Streetscape Project
Now that we have several grassy bump outs along Walker Road, we thought it would be beautiful to plant some spring flowering native trees on both sides of the road between Georgetown Pike and the Safeway entrance. In addition, we plan to lower the white PVC pipes that also dot this area.
Working with VDOT, as well as the Fairfax County and Dranesville arborists, we have identified five different native trees that will thrive in this environment, not interfere with drivers’ site lines or power lines, and make our town more lovely year-round.
In addition, the trees will:
- Provide spring blossoms and fall color
- Visually narrow this stretch of Walker Road so it looks more appealing
- Provide shade
- Add tree canopies to help replace the many white oaks we have recently lost
Our goal is to raise $20,000 to complete this project, ensure that the trees are watered in the first year so they are well established, and to contribute towards future maintenance costs that may be required.
